KAGERA DEVELOPMENT AND CREDIT REVOLVING FUND (KADETFU), Kagera, Region, Tanzania
Kagera Development and Credit Revolving Fund (KADETFU) is a Non-Governmental organization (NGO) based in Kagera region. It was registered by the government of Tanzania on 30th July, 1993 under the Trustees Incorporation ordinance cap No. 375 of 1956. According to the new NGO act 2004, KADETFU has now obtained a certificate of compliance which facilitates the mandate to expand its former area of operation i.e. Kagera region to become a national NGO allowed to operate to the whole regions of Tanzania Mainland. With this compliance, the organization is a membership oriented.

The organization was established purposely for improving the living standard of various communities with particular focus of farmers, fishers, women and youth empowerment, provision of support to vulnerable groups in the community. The ideas of establishment came in after realizing the severity of issues arising to most of the households living in Kagera region. Natural resources were deteriorating day after day in consequence of its inappropriate exploitation, utilization and management. The role of natural resources in the provision of life supporting goods and services to the poor (such as  food, timber, fuel wood, fisheries products, shelter and crops) was no longer satisfactory as the utilization was not accompanied with the concept of sustainability making the majority to be vulnerable to natural disasters and ruined natural resources. Water scarcity and pollution, environmental degradation, human rights abuse and other issues have been directly affecting the livelihoods of the community in the area. Thus a need to focus and strategize towards capacity building of the targeted community in a sustainable manner for sustainable livelihoods is inevitable.

We envisage “An environmental friendly society enjoying better economy, a healthy, peaceful and just society where human rights are observed, a society committed to its social and cultural problems and hence fighting for their solutions”. 

Mission Statement
KADETFU is committed to protect human rights, conservation of the environment, facilitate promotion of social, economic, cultural development and thus empower the society to organize and fight for their needs through utilizing locally available resources”.     

Activities being implemented

• Building capacities of village environmental management committees members on their roles and responsibilities in the area of environmental conservation
• Facilitating the development of Village Joint action Plans on environmental conservation activities by all stakeholders
• Creating awareness and sensitization on the use of eco-san toilets
• Constructing one demonstration structure eco-san toilet
